GROUNDWORKS

Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure  - Drainage works

We were asked to come up with a solution to a flooding problem in the Ashton Playing Fields Car Park which was so bad that half of the available car park space could not be used.

This is a key sports area for Redbridge as it features a full Athletics Track and all weather Hockey and Football pitches. The site can attract thousands of visitors for key events and they need as many car parking spaces available as possible.

The car park had a severe flooding problem and the water was spanning across a 90 metre by 30 metre area at up to a 600mm depth.

We could not use a Soak Away solution as all of the surrounding area is made up of clay. After an in-depth survey of the site we decided to create a series of land drains and we created a central sump for the water to flow into, we then put a large drainage pipe across the car park to an existing rain water drain which was 40 metres away. By getting the pipes installed at the correct angles the site is now completely free of water even during the worst rainfall.

We also repaired all of the pot holes in the car park and the large damaged areas, we extended the car park to create an emergency vehicle access area. We completely re-marked all of the parking bays using a thermo plastic heated paint as well.

The client is very pleased with our solution and they now have the full car park available at all times which has created user satisfaction and generates extra revenue.
